Mangrove Assessment Training Conducted in the Municipality of Del Carmen, Surigao Del Norte [2014 February]
SIKAT in partnership with the municipality of Del Carmen, DENR-SIPLAS and SNCST organized a mangrove assessment which aims to develop and enhance community resource monitoring skills. The activity was participated by 40 community members, LGU & DENR staff, and State college faculty and students. The mangrove assessment training is a preparatory activity for the development of municipal-wide mangrove management plan and roadmap to ensure that the 4,200 hectares of mangrove forests in the municipality will be conserved and will be used in sustainable manner by the communities.
KAMAMANA launched Mudcrab Fattening Project in Brgy. Del Carmen [2014 February]
KAMAMANA, a People’s Organization based in Brgy. Del Carmen, Del Carmen, Surigao del Norte launched a mudcrab fattening project with the funding support from SIKAT. The pilot phase has the capacity to produce 130 kilos per month. The production will be doubled during the full implementation of the social enterprise on March 2014. The project will benefit 16 households and each family can earn up to Php 5,000 additional income per month. The project will also be replicated in other coastal barangays.
Municipality of Del Carmen approved 2014 DRR-CAA Budget of Php 5,563,500 Million [2014 February]
The municipality of Del Carmen, Surigao del Norte approved the municipal Disaster Risk Reduction & Climate Change Adaptation plan and budget of Php 4,687,000 for 2014. Similarly, five (5) barangays/village also approved their barangay DRR plan and budget amounting to a total of Php876,500. As part of organization's commitment to increase coastal community resiliency, SIKAT facilitated barangay consultations and drafting of the DRR-CAA plans.
