The issue of fisherfolk settlement is now being felt by the small fisherfolk sector in the Philippines. The onslaught of globalization ushered in increased demand for coastal land for use in ecotourism, real estate development, industrial zone/parks, aquaculture and government infrastructure. The small fisherfolk sector seems to be in the losing end of the struggle for access, possession and use of coastal land.
The project aims to explore the legal and metalegal practices of ensuring tenurial rights for coastal settlers. Different modes of land acquisition and housing projects are considered for coastal settlement. SIKAT also developed database of laws related to fisherfolk settlement.
